Facebook Messenger Integration
Connect your Facebook Page to automatically respond to Messenger conversations with your AI chatbot.
Overview
The Facebook Messenger integration allows you to connect your Facebook Business Page to your Blocktell chatbot. Once connected, your chatbot will automatically respond to messages sent to your Page via Messenger.
Key Benefits
- Automate customer support on Facebook Messenger
- 24/7 AI-powered responses to customer inquiries
- Seamless handover to human agents when needed
- Track conversations and analytics in your dashboard
- Maintain conversation context across sessions
Prerequisites
Before you begin, make sure you have:
- 1
A Blocktell account with at least one trained chatbot
- 2
A Facebook account with admin access to a Facebook Page
- 3
A Facebook Business Page (personal profiles cannot receive Messenger API messages)
Step 1: Access Integrations
Navigate to the Integrations page in your Blocktell dashboard to begin the connection process.
Open Integrations
In your Blocktell dashboard, click on "Integrations" in the sidebar navigation.
Open IntegrationsFind Facebook Messenger
Locate the Facebook Messenger card in the integrations list and click "Connect".
Step 2: Connect Your Facebook Account
Authorize Blocktell to access your Facebook Page for Messenger integration.
Click "Connect with Facebook"
This will open Facebook's authorization window in a new tab or popup.
Log in to Facebook
If you're not already logged in, enter your Facebook credentials. Make sure to use an account that has admin access to the Page you want to connect.
Select Your Page
Facebook will show a list of Pages you manage. Select the Page you want to connect to your chatbot. You can connect multiple Pages if needed.
Grant Permissions
Review and accept the required permissions. Blocktell needs:
- Access to manage messages on your Page
- Access to Page information
Important
Make sure to grant all requested permissions. If you skip any permissions, the integration may not work correctly.
Step 3: Link Your Chatbot
After connecting your Facebook Page, link it to one of your trained chatbots.
View Connected Pages
After authorization, you'll see your connected Facebook Pages listed in the Messenger integration card.
Select a Chatbot
Use the dropdown menu next to each connected Page to select which chatbot should handle Messenger conversations for that Page.
Activate the Connection
Click the link button or toggle to activate the chatbot for your Facebook Page.
You're all set!
Your Facebook Page is now connected. Anyone who sends a message to your Page via Messenger will receive AI-powered responses from your trained chatbot.
Testing Your Integration
After setting up the integration, test it to ensure everything is working correctly.
Open Messenger
Open Facebook Messenger on your phone or visit messenger.com in your browser.
Search for Your Page
Search for your connected Facebook Page and start a new conversation.
Send a Test Message
Send a message related to your chatbot's training data. You should receive an AI-generated response within a few seconds.
Managing Your Integration
Changing Linked Chatbot
To link a different chatbot, use the dropdown menu on the Page card and select a new chatbot. The change takes effect immediately.
Adding More Pages
To connect additional Facebook Pages, click "Connect with Facebook" again. You can select additional Pages during the authorization process.
Disconnecting a Page
To disconnect a Facebook Page, click the disconnect or remove button on the Page card. This will stop the chatbot from responding to messages but won't affect your Facebook Page settings.
Troubleshooting
Chatbot not responding to messages?
- -Verify the Page is linked to a chatbot in your Integrations dashboard
- -Check that your chatbot has training data and works in the playground
- -Ensure you haven't exceeded your message quota
- -Try disconnecting and reconnecting the Facebook Page
Can't see my Facebook Page?
- -Make sure you're logged into the correct Facebook account
- -Verify you have admin access to the Page
- -Try revoking Blocktell's access in Facebook settings and reconnecting
Permission errors?
- -Ensure all required permissions were granted during authorization
- -Go to Facebook Settings > Business Integrations and verify Blocktell has the correct permissions
- -Disconnect and reconnect, making sure to accept all permissions
Slow response times?
- -AI responses typically take 2-5 seconds depending on complexity
- -If responses are consistently slow, check your chatbot's training data size
- -Consider optimizing your knowledge base for faster retrieval
